An avalanche rescue system that allows victims to be located by radar.

It consists of two parts: the radar detector which is used by rescue teams; and passive reflectors which do not emit a signal and are incorporated in some anoraks, trousers, helmets and even boots.

The reflector consists of a small electronic transponder weighing just four grams with a thin copper antenna and a diode that bounces the detector signal and doubles the frequency. It is covered with a protective rubber outer foil which gives it its familiar elongated lozenge shape. It is virtually indestructible. The reflector does not emit a signal and therefore does not require a power source.
